Defenders of the Earth

Atari ST Game

Released in 1990, this 16-bit game based upon the series was also released on the Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, SAM Coupé, ZX Spectrum home computers. The game sees you take control of Flash Gordon as he explores Ming's castle. He is able to call on the other Defenders member to aid him throughout his adventure.

The game way was developed by English company Enigma Variations Ltd. and published by Hi-Tec Software Ltd., also based in England.

Defenders has been released several times on various countries. Those that are part of my collection include

The Phantom (1943 Movie Serial)

A 15-chapter serial produced by Columbia Pictures that would show before the main feature at picture theatres. The serial makes some changes to the source material, such as giving The Phantom the real name of Geoffrey Prescott. This is because his actual name, Kit Walker, had not yet been revealed in the strip at the time the serial was made. This Australian DVD release received a digital restoration. The Phantom (1996) Film

HMV Premium Collection BluRay

UK retailer HMV released a series of films under an Premium Collection banner. These releases came in a a slip case, art cards and a poster. The Phantom collection was released crica 2021.

Phantom 2040: The Animated Movie Releases

The animated "movie" - which is actually just the first four episodes of Season One edited together - was released several times before the full seasons ever received a home release. Those copies in my collection are;

  • Australian VHS release from Fun House Entertainment
  • Australian DVD release
  • UK Laser Disk release from Pioneer Electronic Corporation

Australian Season 1 DVD

Released exclusively in Australia. Contains the entirety of the first season of the show. The episodes comprising the second season are yet to be released on any format.

Phantom 2040 Sega Mega Drive Video Game

Released in 1995 for both the Mega Drive and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. There was also a Game Gear version. To learn more about the game, check out the Phantom 2040 Archive.
